A man was pistol-whipped on The Strand during Lone Star Rally’s Saturday evening festivities, according to the city.
A
disturbance broke out between 22nd and 23rd streets on The Strand about
11:30 p.m. Saturday, David Smith, city executive director of fleet,
mass transit and special events, wrote in an email.
Police
were told that a man had blood on his side and had been shot before he
left the area, Smith said. Another man also fled the area south on 23rd
Street on foot, he said.
Officers blocked off the area but didn’t find any shell casings, Smith said.
Later,
the man with blood on him arrived via a private car at a University of
Texas Medical Branch hospital and told staff he was pistol-whipped, not
shot, Smith said. The man didn’t want to tell police who had hit him and
didn’t want to press charges, Smith said.
Officers opened up the closed area of The Strand, and the rally continued, Smith said.
Police are still investigating the incident, Smith said.
